What a gem! We work around this area and have passed by this place hundreds of times without a second thought. It just didn’t look very appealing from the outside, but I happened to stumble upon rave reviews of the place and felt tempted to give it a try. Even then I was skeptical, but what a great find.
First, this place is 3 stories – ground, floor 1, floor 2. When we went around 1 pm on a Saturday about 2/3 of the place was full. We sat on the second floor by request. The place is clean, casual, relaxed, and no-frills, but not in a disturbing way. It’s just simple and practical.
The service was great. Our orders were taken right away and customizations were not frowned upon. We got the polo steak burger and the omelette with 1 filling.
Steak Burger – on the steak burger we requested both the caramelized red onion and the house sauce on the side. The thinking was that sometimes the caramelized onions that come on a burger are fully dripping oil, making the burger soggy and greasy. And we were worried about the quality of the meat as well. When the burger came, it was so tactful, not soggy or greasy, and the onions and sauce were served on the side as requested. The meat was fantastic quality and the burger was so well seasoned and cooked to perfection. The caramelized onions were not dripping in oil and we added most of them to the burger. The burger is incredibly tasty, good quality, and I’d recommend it any day. Served on its own – sides are extra.
Omelette – this is a three egg omelette that we requested with egg white only. There was a choice of a few fillings (spinach, cheese, and ham I believe) and we opted for the spinach (£1 extra). If you’ve had an egg white omelette, you know how flavorless they can taste. I’ve had my fair share. This was definitely top 3 in my life. This omelette was more like a fried egg white omelette, which of course helped the taste, but it was seasoned perfectly and the spinach tasted so good. I don’t know how you make spinach taste that good. The omelette is served with a side salad (and without my requesting, they automatically put the dressing on the side, which was a HUGE pro) and french fries.
There are plenty of condiments accessible from each table (ketchup, mustard, sriracha, Tabasco, brown sauce, mayo, etc.), so you can add whatever you want as you please. When we requested a jug of tap water they immediately obliged, making it so we didn’t have to flag someone down each time we wanted more water. The server checked in at appropriate times to make sure everything was going well and that we were happy with our food.
Oh and bonus – it is open 24 hours. Do you know how rare that is in London? One of maybe less than 10 places in the entire city. Seriously give this place a try!
