Nama Raw Foods - Mexican Bowl
Raw Mexican Bowl

We really liked this place in theory and wanted to end up loving it, but the truth is, the meals here would barely feed a baby chick. They are expensive and so so small and unfilling we did not know what to do. Good idea to make reservations because they do tend to be booked on weekend nights, not really because it draws huge crowds, but because it is so tiny. There are two separate rooms and a counter with baked goods and coffee in the middle.

We ordered the lasagna and the Mexican bowl. What was so very disappointing about each of these is that 80% of the dish was a sauce and only the other 20% was solid food.

Nama Raw Foods - Lasagne
Raw Lasagna

Lasagna – tomato sauce, macadamia “ricotta”, basil and arugula pesto, marinated spinach, and zucchini pasta strips topped with almond “parmesan”. Literally all sauce with the tiniest strips of zucchini being the only solid food. And really a laughable portion, particularly given how light it was.

Mexican Bowl – shredded lettuce, spinach, peppers, jalapeno peppers, almond chili sauce, guacamole, pico de gallo, and cashew chipotle sour cream served with corn chips. Ok so basically the solid food here is lettuce and peppers and the rest is clumps of sauce. The chili sauce is really tasty, but so oily and rich, and again it is not solid food. I didn’t really come here to eat sauces. The corn chips – there were exactly 4 of them – are not much help in terms of filling yourself up.

Nama Raw FoodsThis place has a good idea, I’m totally down with the lifestyle, but they don’t even serve very healthy food – all that oil, fake cheese, and pureed sauces are not my style and they are not filling. I would’ve really liked to see some fresh, hearty vegetables in various raw forms and groupings and triple or quadruple the portion. I wouldn’t go back.
