Basil Stir Fry
Basil Stir Fry

Land Thai could be much more successful if they had better customer service. I would not come back here of my own choosing and would urge people to stay away, but once the food problems were fixed, the dishes ended up being pretty decent.

Basil stir-fry – string beans, long hot chili, onion, chili-garlic puree, and Thai basil sauce. Now this dish is indicated to beĀ 3 star levels of spiciness (hot) and we asked for 2 stars instead (medium). The dish we got was so insanely hot that it was obvious the kitchen had confused the 4 star extra hot request for our garlic-ginger entree (below) with this one. They had made the garlic-ginger stir fry 2 stars (medium) and this basil stir-fry at least 4 stars. When we explained the mishap, the staff refused to do anything about it. They kept responding that they checked the order in the computer and saw that they had correctly typed in “2 star-medium” for the basil stir-fry, so we were wrong that it was too spicy! They said the best they could do was offer 20% off. That means nothing when you can’t eat any part of a dish that you received because you wanted it medium spicy and they instead made it inedibly spicy for your taste. After insisting, they finally agreed to remake a half portion of the dish at a milder level, but would not give us a full dish or supplement all the rice that was thrown away when they took back the inedible dish.

Land Thai (1)Garlic-Ginger stir-fry – snow pea, asian celery, roasted garlic, ginger curry sauce. This dish is naturally 0 star (completely mild, no heat), but we asked for it 4 stars (extra hot). What we got was a teeny tiny hint of spice, comparable to the 2 star (medium) that we requested for the basil stir-fry. At this point, we did not request that they remake the whole thing, but simply that they quick fire it again with added spice. You cannot physically eat something that is too spicy for you (as with the above), but you can eat something that is not spicy enough (as with this), even if it’s not your preference, so we decided not to pick this battle. They refused to do even a quick-fire with added spice and only agreed to bring out a side of chili flakes. Ok whatever, not the biggest deal, so we didn’t say anything else.

The food was decent, but the experience was very stressful and disappointing. Also, Land Thai doesn’t use fresh ginger for the ginger dish, which is a shocking as this is just standard in the vast majority of Thai places who pride themselves on the fresh, good food they serve. Land Thai instead just uses ginger flavoring. Ugh.

Sides of rice are super small. They don’t use the classic rice bowl, but instead some small square box as a measure.

There are way too many delicious Thai places in the city, including in the same neighborhood, to ever go back to this place.
