We’ve always liked Haru, though some people have mixed feelings. Our experience has generally consisted of good food and good service. There are seven Haru locations throughout NYC, and we’ve been to most of them.
Most times we just order various rolls, but we’ve also ordered a number of their entrees and even off of their changing special menu. We’ve tried the Kazan Chicken (with Massaman sauce), the Chicken Tempura Maki, the Strawberry Fin Roll, Sea Bass with Noodles, and various other staple rolls. All of their sushi is generally good quality and they do have a very nice selection.
The food is always pretty solid. The Massaman curry in the Kazan Chicken dish is great and the chicken is good quality. The Chicken Tempura Maki is unique (chicken in sushi!). I would definitely recommend getting that if you are in the mood for a non-fish or cooked sushi.
The Strawberry Fin Roll is a favorite, particularly if you are in the mood for some fruit (strawberry and mango both) and fun crunch of the roe on top. Rolls like the Strawberry Fin Roll clearly could not be farther from authentic, but hey, it’s honestly just delicious – so what can you do?
Do know, though, that during busy times, the servers can get a little inattentive and the food can take a long time to come out.
