Gail’s

Gail's (1)
Greek Yogurt with Fruit Compote and Gronola

So I’m quite surprised I’m saying this, but I can’t really say anything bad about Gail’s – it’s pretty awesome. First, it’s an artisan bakery selling fresh-baked breads, pastries, desserts, sandwiches, and light breakfast meals. They also have a full coffee and tea selection. Their baked goods and foods (save hot meals) are on display and you can grab them to-go or eat them there. Generally, when you walk into one of these bakeries where everything is displayed and looks all pretty and delicious, it is a colossal fail. You try something and it looks a lot better than it is and then you try something else and it’s the same – there’s a weird flavor, or its dry, or it’s bland. Gail’s is like that at all, which initially took me by surprise.

Scrambled Eggs on Toast

We’ve been many times and have tried a lot of things and most everything is a safe bet (we have not tried everything, so there may be misses, but generally not).

Some of our favorites:

The scrambled eggs on toast (for which they kindly provided fresh tomatoes on the side at my request) and the Greek yogurt with fruit compote and granola, which was SO delicious. Better than most anywhere.

We’ve had the flourless chocolate cake. Amazing – dense and rich and not too sweet.

Gail's cornbread
Savory Cornbread

Cornbread – as someone who is not at all a fan of cornbread, I don’t know how they managed to pull this one off so spectacularly. First of all, it’s not a traditional cornbread. Cornbread is sweet. This is savory, more like a muffin, and is baked with spring onion, fresh corn, and peppers inside. It is moist and delicious.

Chocolate and Lemon Loaves – not too sweet, moist, great loaves.

We could go on, but frankly it’s just a must try. There are several Gail’s throughout the city, so find one in a convenient location to you and please go.
