So. Overrated. The one thing this place has going for it is that they make cookies and there is a huge shortage of actual American-style cookies in the UK. But the problem is, they don’t really know how to make delicious cookies, so the one thing it should have going for it, it doesn’t.
Ben’s Cookies are a chain of cookie stands/tiny cookie shops and they serve about ten different types of cookies like the classic chocolate chip, double chocolate, ones with nuts, dried fruit, white chocolate, etc. They also serve hot beverages.
The cookies are priced by weight, but are all around the same size, so one cookie tends to be between £1.25-1.75 or so. We got the double chocolate (chocolate cookie with dark chocolate chips) and ours came out to exactly £1.50.
So the first problem with the cookie is obvious before you even eat one. Their cookies look as though they have the texture of a cake and not a cookie. This is exactly true.
The second problem you discover is that it’s quite dry, though still soft since it is more cake-like than cookie-like.
The third problem is that there is just nothing superior about the flavor. The best part of it is the half-melted chocolate chips inside, but there are even too many of those. Overall, it’s just a fine cookie, which is just not worth eating. Especially if you’re used to American cookies. We say go to Subway and buy a couple of their (almost always) delicious cookies instead.
